Ruffle Korker Bows

Korker and Mini Korkers

Today I have added some new korker bows and some mini korker bows. The Korkers are very full and approximately 3"-3.5" wide and can be found at www.hootiebees.com/korkers. The mini korkers are smaller and can be found at www.hootiebees.com/mini-korkers. These are made with dotted ribbon, solid ribbon, and striped ribbon and are currently available in royal, red, orange, emerald, black, and navy. I hope to add more colors but it will probably be next week. I am currently waiting on a ribbon order and going to be putting new flooring down in the craft room over the next few days.

New Korker Bows

I have rearranged and added different styles of korker bows to the website. They are now broken up into four different categories: Mini Korker Bows, Korker Bows, Ruffle Korker Bows, and Suzie Q Korker Bows. A brief description of each type of bow (along with pictures of the new bows listed today) is as follows:

These bows are made from only curly ribbon. They are smaller (approximately 2") and not as full as the regular korker bows. These are on alligator clips and are ideal for infants or toddlers.

These bows are also made from only curly ribbon. These bows are approximately 3" wide and are very full. They can be ordered on an alligator clip or on a small french barrette. These are perfect for toddlers and older girls. They are also adorable put on the stretchy headbands for infants.

These bows are layered. The bottom layer is a flat pinwheel style bow made with 1.5" wide ribbon. The curls on the top layer of these bows are larger than the curls used on the korker bows as I use larger dowels. The bow is approximately 4" to 4.5" wide. Since these bows are larger, they only come on a large French Barrette. These are perfect for toddlers and older girls.

I have added a new product to the website today and I have discontinued a product. Doggie bows are no longer available. I have added new "bottlecap" clippies. These little clippies are made from gathered ribbon and are approximately 1.5" in diameter. They are mounted onto a partially lined alligator clip and have a flattened bottlecap in the center. So far I have added 3 Halloween themed clippies. There will be many more of these to come in the next few days, weeks. People have responded really well to these at my festivals. I realize it has been awhile since I got anything new put on the website. I have been so swamped with internet orders, cheerleading orders, and it is my busy festival season too. All I can say is that is has been CRAZY at my house! That is why I haven't blogged in awhile. My daughter just started her first year in High School, my son just started his last year in Middle School. So there has been all the fun back to school shopping and Open Houses. I have also returned back to work from my recent back surgery. It is cheerleading season and those orders are starting to come in. This coming weekend also starts my busy festival season! This past week we have had to deal with one child having MRSA and the other child broke a finger! Someone hit our mustang a few weeks ago too so I have been dealing with car dealership and insurance issues too. Luckily, that is over and we have the mustang back fixed like new! Anyway, just wanted to pop in and let you know I am still creating new things and will have a few new things on the website shortly!

Ok, now that my back is starting to heal and I can get up and down and around better, I have started back working on some products and the website. Surgery is OVER!

Ok, my back surgery is finally OVER! I had it done last Monday, June 13th. That is one of those things that you can ask a million different people who have had the surgery what to expect but until you go thru it yourself you can never imagine. I was really scared of waking up in the recovery room and being in extreme pain (as I have before in other surgery). I was in pain when I woke up but one shot in the IV and I was fine! Stayed there about an hour and then moved to my regular room. I was ok that evening and then about half way thru the night. Then I started having back spasms (which NO ONE warned me about). My whole body would crinch up and it was the most painful experience I have had -- made kidney stones feel like a breeze! I was released from the hospital on Tuesday evening and came home. The spasms lasted another day or so but the Dr. had given me something for those. I have been trying to walk around some more each day as that is imperative to my recovery. I have had 2 falls though and that was not fun. Hubby has had to change the dressing on my back each day with today being the last day. It comes off tomorrow. I am SO GLAD because I have been forbidden to bathe since the night before the surgery. I have sponged myself off a little here and there to try to keep the smell down. Tomorrow I can take a shower and get rid of 7 days of grease in my hair (can't wait!). However, no baths, hot tubs, or swimming pools for 30 days. Guess my in-ground pool isn't going to be of much help to me for awhile. I am only suppose to sit up in 10-minute intervals. Hopefully, they will release me to go back to work in 30 days (well 23 now). But ABSOLUTELY NO lifting, bending, or twisting for 90 days. I sure don't want to go thru this again.

I have or am in the process of reopening my websites. Ebay, http://www.hootiebees.com/, and http://www.hootiebee.artfire.com/ sites are back open. I am still working on getting the Bonanza site completely opened. I hope to be getting some new things listed in another week too if all goes well with the back. I still have my good days and my bad days.

Busy and Surgery

First I would like to say sorry for not doing much blogging lately. It has been crazy around here with all the end of the school year stuff with the kids. I have one going into high school next year and I am still wondering where all the time went!

I have actually been making bows and other products but mostly gearing up for festival season. I do have some new ribbon and some new ideas too but they are on hold for a little while. I am having back surgery tomorrow on a ruptured disc. I don't really know what to expect as far as how long it will be before I can start creating again but I sure hope NOT TOO LONG or my head might explode with all these ideas inside - LOL! I am shutting down my online shops but hopefully just a few days or a week at most (crossing my fingers). I hope everyone has a great week and Father's Day!

Why I love Artfire!

So I was asked recently what are the five main reasons I love selling on artfire. Gosh, I am not sure I can narrow it down to five but here goes:

1. Artfire is SO easy to use. I love being able to use one page to list my items instead of having to scroll from one page to the next to the next and so on. There is so much flexibility in designing your studio. You can change your studio layout, colors, banners, add widgets, etc. -- all with EASE - no technical degree required!

2. I love all the little "extras" that the designers of artfire have implemented for us sellers! The global editing is extremely helpful if you need to raise or lower prices, switch items around to different categories, change shipping prices, etc. The coupon maker is sweet too. This is a great way to send a coupon code to all your friends, family, and prized customers with very little work to do on your part.

3. What seller could NOT love the fees on artfire. I mean, really, we are here to make money. As an artisian it is harder to make money because you have supply costs and time invested in creating the item to take into consideration too. With some places, you have to pay a listing fee, a membership fee, and final value fee on top of the paypal fees too! This all cuts into your profit. Artfire has one simple monthly fee. Sell a lot, sell a little - either way you will come out on top!

4. I love the fact that anyone can buy on artfire. The other places you have to have a login id and password. Well, that's nice but after a while it is hard to keep up with all those ids and passwords. With artfire anyone can buy - not just members. Artfire also allows the seller to receive payments in several different ways and does not limit you to say JUST paypal. I like giving the customer a choice in that matter. They may not have a paypal account and just want to pay with a charge card, or they may have an amazon account and wish to pay with that. Artfire really is more convienent to customers.

5. The artfire community is SO MUCH NICER than others. I have sold and do sell on many different venues and I will say that the people on artfire are all so nice and accomodating. Want some new feature -- list it in a forum and they will start working on it. They are not like some that promise to get to it but NEVER do. The forums are so easy to use. The guilds are so inviting and not snobby. The fellow artisans that I have had the pleasure to contact have all been so nice and not "snotty" like on other venues.

Ok, there I said it. It was hard to get that into five and I probably combined a few into one here and there. I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about artfire. Been Experimenting

So I ordered these mini bottlecaps a few weeks ago and they have been laying there screaming "Please make something with me". I had to ignore the screams because I was getting ready for two festivals. But I am festival free for about six weeks now so I got to experiment last night. This is what I have come up with so far: earrings and rings! I think they turned out really cute and can't wait to put my own designs on them. I also have some ideas of different ways to make them to switch it up a bit. I haven't decided yet if this is something I will offer on the websites yet or let it be just a festival thing. We will see.

Festival and Mother's Day

Saturday I had my second festival of the season. Again, the weather was perfect! I sure hope that keeps up throughout the year on Festival dates! Yesterday was Mother's Day. I hope everyone had a great day! I sure did. We (me, hubby, and 2 kids) went to the mall and did some long overdue shopping. It was good to spend time together as with teenagers you know they are always going their separate ways it seems and not much time for Mom and Dad anymore! Other than that I took a nap, did very little housework, and only made the bows that had to go out today for orders. Nothing more! And it was very relaxing and the weather was nice again. I am lucky to have two great kids, wonderful husband, and Awesome mom who lives next door to me.

Now I have about 6 weeks off before my next festival so I will be spending the weekends and extra time getting geared up for the big festival season in September/October. I am also hoping to squeeze in some sun time too. We took the cover off the pool last Thursday and the water was dark BLACK. It is clearing up some now and we are to pick up our pool chemicals tomorrow so hopefully it will be clear by the weekend. First Festival of the season

I had my first festival of the year this past Saturday. It was the Cherry Blossom Festival in Cherryville, NC. The weather was perfect and sales were good. The first festival is always a real eye-opening experience. This year I had a bunch of different hangers and racks so I was excited to see IF and how everything would fit. I got everything to fit so that was good. My new tablecloths that my dear, sweet grandmother sewed for me look GREAT! I have been working a lot on stock the last few month but now I know what all I need to work on before the big season hits in September. I have another festival this coming Saturday in Hudson, NC. After that I have almost a 2 month break so I will be working more on the website after this weekend. I have also updated my festival schedule and it is close to being complete now. I may do one more festival in July but I won't add it to the schedule until I apply and get accepted.

Butterflies and Ballerinas

New Line:

As promised I have started adding double-ruffle bows to the site. These bows are so cute and frilly! Right now I am working on the toddler style bows but bigger bows will come later. If you like my regular toddler style bows, you will love these. These bows are a little smaller than my toddler style but actually use more ribbon as I use more loops on these. Few Posts Lately

Sorry about the posting lately. I know it has been few and far between. I have been really busy with many different things. I "accidentally" deleted all my items off my Bonanza booth (yeah me)! Fortunately they have an application that lets me import my items from an inventory file so that was great. The problem is that it doesn't import the pictures correctly and sometimes the shipping too so I am having to go into each listing and revise before I post it for sale. With around 750 listings it is taking me quite a while! I am up to over 500 now so I'm slowly getting there. I have been working on this in my spare time. I have also been trying to gear up for festival season as my first one is now just a month away. So between fixing Bonanza and filling orders, I have been trying to stock up on bows, badges, etc. for festivals. This week I have devoted to making the badge ID holders (173 made so far).

I promise some new stuff soon. I have some ribbon coming in today that I plan on using for the boutique bows on headbands so maybe I will get those listed next week. I also just ordered some of the double ruffle ribbon and can't wait to get that in next week to create some things with. I bought a roll a few weeks ago at a local store and finally sat down with it last night and played! It is so cute and "frilly"!

Miscellaneous Rambling

What a crazy weekend. I had a bad Friday so to speak. I found out that my Camry needed AT LEAST $2,000 worth of work done to it. I say at least because there appeared to be more wrong with it than we thought. It has 197,000 + miles on it so I was a little skeptical about putting anymore $ in it just to find out more. So I was a little bummed to say the least.

Then I got some bitter sweet news from the Dr. office. The "sweet" part is that they FINALLY figured out where all my lower back right side pain was coming from. I have been thru numerous tests this year to find the culprit and since I have a kidney disease, they figured it was somehow related to my kidneys. I have had all kinds of ultrasounds, etc. Well Thursday I went for a back x-ray. Friday they called and said that I have arthritis in my lower right back and my right hip. That was the "bitter" part!! I was glad they finally figured it out but was hoping it was something "fixable"!

Saturday, we went and bought a 2011 black Camry (I love it)! My daughter and I had gone car shopping on Friday night and after sleeping on it this is the one I decided I wanted. I am not thrilled about having car payments again but I love the 0% interest rate! I love everything about the car except for the interior. It is light grey cloth (my other was leather). I went today on my lunch break and bought some seat covers because I can see those getting nasty quick!

Saturday evening we headed to Lowes and did some shopping. We used to plant flowers every year and keep the yard looking decent. The last few years we have done NOTHING except mow and weed-eat. The landscape timbers that we had around our flagpole and around the bushes in the front of the house were rotted (some completely gone). We got the retaining wall blocks to go there. We are also redoing the area beside our house at the driveway - moving the white rock there to the flagpole. I did a little shoveling of rock and I am sore today! Hubby is still working on all of it. Some mulch, some flowers and some grass planted and we will be done. I will post some before and after pictures soon.

And that was pretty much my weekend. I did watch some basketball too of course. I didn't make any bows other than what orders I had. I will regret that come festival time but it was nice to "take a break". Tonight we go to the high school to get my baby girl registered -- man they grow up FAST!

I hand paint the plaque and letters myself and add a coat of polyurethane for protection. I had so much fun making these! They are hand-painted with a coat of polyurethane for protection. There are two ribbons attached. A 7/8" wide ribbon perfect for clippies and small bows and a 1.5" wide ribbon for bigger bows on French Barrettes. The ribbons are approximately 32" long. The ladybug has wiggle eyes and a bow with a rhinestone center. There is a small ribbon attached at the top for hanging. These are available in red/black and pink/lime and are $12 each. I do not have a supplier of these ladybug pieces - they are just something I ran across so I purchased all that was in stock and it is a seasonal item so once they are gone that is it. A Learning Process

I started my own website a little less than a year ago. Boy I have learned a lot since then and still learning! As you know I have upgraded parts of the site here and there throughout but there were some things still bothering me about how the site was functioning. When you hit the "Back" button on the browser it wasn't taking you to the last page you looked at but all the way back to the home page. This was frustrating me (so I can only imagine my customers). Anyway, after reading several help menus and doing some research I have learned about "deep linking" and assigning each page a name so that it has a different url. It should also help me in the search engines too! The website it getting better but I am still learning!

There are few things I really wish I could do like use drop down menus for hat sizes, monogram letters, etc. Also, a search box would be nice. Being able to input and show how many of each item is available would be helpful too! Since my site is a flash site I have to rely on what features are available. I have been told that they are working on all these features I have requested so maybe someday I will get it EXACTLY like I want it. I have also just learned that flash sites won't show up on some devices such as iphone, ipad, etc. but they are suppose to be working on fixing that too!

One Crazy Week

This week has been crazier than most (if that is possible)! Monday night my son played in the tournament championship basketball game. They won! His team of 8 boys went undefeated in regular season play and also in that tournament! I love watching him play and I am going to miss it. However, on the other side, maybe now I can get more work done :).

Tuesday night we went to school for my daughter's athletic banquet. So cheerleading season is officially over for us too. Tuesday the dog had a grooming appointment. Wednesday, my son had a dentist appointment. Tomorrow someone is coming out to work on one of our appliances and tomorrow night we have a birthday party to attend!

So this week, in my spare time (LOL), I have been getting geared up for this year's festival season. I have ordered supplies almost everyday this week. I have filled out applications and got those in the mail finally. I have even come up with some new designs for pendants and bottlecaps. I ordered some fabric yesterday to make some new table skirts. The old ones have seen their better days! I am thinking of making some new hangers for my tents to replace some from last year that were thrown together in a hurry and are now falling apart. But all in due time!

My Valentine

Yesterday (Valentine's Day) we purchased a shiny, red mustang! No, it's not new but new to us. We actually bought the car to "get ahead". My daughter and my son are 17 months apart which means 2 cars within 2 years. Unfortunately this will mean 2 teenagers on our insurance at the same time - Ugh! Anyway, both mine and hubby's vehicles are paid for. We have gotten 3 other bills paid off recently (with some help of tax refund). These were bills we weren't struggling to pay but glad they are GONE! So the income that was going to pay those bills are now going to pay for the car. My daughter is only 14 so we have some time. The plan is to have the car paid off by the time she turns 16 so we can turn around and do the same for the son. In the meantime, I am going to look sweet in the red tang! :)

Yes, the daughter is spoiled but she is a pretty good girl. There are strings attached - like she must keep her straight A's that she has now thru high school, stay with the right crowd, no illegal activities, etc. - you get the point!

Been Busy and What's New

I have been really busy this week! I had tests run one day (3 ultrasounds). I thought that would be quick and painless but was neither! I also did manage to get my taxes done one night and filed so that is behind me (yeah!). We are going to the game tonight to watch my daughter cheer - it is their last regular season game. They will have a tournament next week so I don't know how much I will get done then.

I have managed to add a few things to the site this week. I have added a few dozen more of the baby bows in the print category. There are still around 50-60 of these that I have not gotten put on there yet but hopefully by the end of next week I will have that category finished.

I also added 4 new ponytail cuffs today. Three of them are peace signs and the other is volleyball. I have more fabric laid aside to make some more of these soon. I also have new fabric laid aside for some new flower hair clips. Maybe over the weekend I can get those made.

I have been working on a new design for bottlecap necklaces. These are monogram and do involve peace signs. I am hoping to get those out tomorrow.
